Dating & Relationship Advice for Surviving The Winters of Life
As I sat at my desk pondering fall, winter, the upcoming months and the impact I know it has on the lives of my clients I was inspired to ‘pen’ this post for you. It is my hope weather you are single, dating, in a relationship or in some form of ‘it’s complicated’, that you will find some inspiration, perspective and maybe just maybe, some hope if you stumble upon this during some winter months.
If you are someone like me who is from a true four season environment, you know these four seasons well. You know the joys of summer that leave winter a nearly forgotten memory. You know the beauty of fall, but still ignore its underlining message that winter is soon to come. And, on the coldest and darkest days of winter, who cannot but hope for spring and the dream of summer to come!
Regardless if we are single or in a relationship, our lives too, mirror these seasons. We all go through the warm days of summer, the cooling off of fall, the cold, darkness of winter, and the warming up and budding of spring. We experience these seasons in relationships, careers, physically, emotionally, spiritually; these seasons touch every aspect of our lives at one point or another.
The summers and springs are the joyous ones, the falls can leave us knowing we have something slipping away. It can cause use to do crazy things in hopes of clinging on to the spring/summer. And the dead of winter can bring pain, loneliness and struggle.
As winter fast approaches I would like to remind you of the beauty and joy this season brings- even if it is hard to see. There is such beauty in a single snow flake, and waking up after a night of snow fall where the snow has built up on the branches of the trees, across the electrical wires, untouched by the wind and the warmth of the sun. There are outdoor activities to enjoy- like snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling. A cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or a fire hold that much more appreciation. Some of the most beautiful holidays happen in the winter, I think, so we might appreciate them more. ;-)
The winter months can allow us to slow down and draw us closer to people. To enjoy their warmth, to see their beauty and to invest deeper in dating and our relationships than we may in the summers and springs.
If you are someone who typically struggles through the winter season, please reach out to your friends and family. Know you are not alone and start making plans NOW to not only help you survive this season but also to allow yourself to truly LIVE and see the beauty of the winter months. There are people, love, laughter, life and joy all around you- it just might take a little more work and different perspective to find it!
Remember, you do not have to go it alone. I am here to help.
