Make a date (with yourself)

Love is a sometimes a tough business – especially when you feel like you have to navigate it on your own. No more! Kimberly Koehler (a.k.a. Dating Coach KK) is ready to help, at any stage of your relationship.

She offers various services (, including one-on-one coaching and boot camps and also has a new book out. A born matchmaker, she’s gifted when it comes to reading people and situations.

She suggests that in a good relationship, it’s important to keep in touch with who you are. “By putting ourselves first, we teach others how to treat us,” said Kimberly, adding it’s important to remember who you were before you were married or dating.

Here are some of her tips for how to keep your individuality, wherever you are in your relationship.

Take note of things you valued as a single woman: Maybe it’s your career, time with the girls, sports, reading a book or going for a walk. What is it you value doing? Once you stop doing it, you might end up feeling lost.

Schedule time for yourself first: Before your calendar gets booked up, make sure you take time and schedule an activity that’s important to you.

Enjoy time for yourself: When you have that time scheduled, take advantage. Whether you’re taking a bath, sitting down with a book, going to the gym or having conversations with friends, it will actually help you maintain your relationship with your significant other.

Look ahead: Come up with experiences and achievements you have for yourself for the year. Maybe you want to take a tap class or learn to sew or take tennis lessons or go to a new museum.

Don’t feel guilty: When you’re in a relationship, you want to include your family and you feel guilty if you don’t. Your first priority has to be you. If your mindset is correct, you come to understand you have to be the healthiest version of yourself. Before you can have balance with those around you, you need to be in balance yourself.
