He Hit on Me: Lets Hear it for the Cat in a Hat!

He Hit on Me: Lets Hear it for the Cat in a Hat!

This past Saturday, May 21st, I hosted a group of some of the finest single men and single women of the Twin Cities at the Guthrie’s Costume Ball. While many socialites of the Twin Cities enjoyed dinner on either one of the Guthrie stages or at Sea Change with ticket prices ranging from over a $1,000.00 per person to $250.00, we had an outstanding time at Kindee Thai Restaurant in Downtown Minneapolis just across the street from the Guthrie Theater.  Around 9:00 we ventured over to the Guthrie to join the Costume Ball.

After cutting a rug on the dance floor with our group and working up a reallycat in the hat by ♦ This Marvelous Life good sweat we decided to go grab some drinks, chat, and take in some of the beautiful costumes. I got separated from my group and found myself in the middle of the main area virtually all alone. As I walked forward there stood the Cat in a Hat. We made eye contact, he smiled, I smiled back in my typical manner and he walked towards me. I could tell he wanted to say something. I figured it was going to be a simple compliment on my costume however it was much more.

As I stood there time stood still for just a moment. I can’t recall all of what he said and honestly I couldn’t hear all of it either due to how horribly loud the music was. The gist is he tried to connect with me and asked me if I was interested in hanging out sometime to better get to know one another. When I told him I was not single he then said, “Aww, your boyfriend is one lucky man. Be sure to tell him that, you are beautiful.” I did invite him to join our group if he desired and thought he might take me up on it. He exited the conversation gracefully and off on our own way we went.

This is not the first time I have been hit on and I hope not the last. What stands out to me is that it took such courage for this man to walk up to a complete stranger in the middle of such a public place and big event and he went for it. If I were single he was not the type of man that I would pick out of a crowd to get to know on my own. He was a bit younger then what I normally am drawn to and had long hair. I typically am drawn to distinguished looking men that are very clean cut, polished, and in the baby boomer age range.

Having shared what I have about my taste, if I were single I would have taken him up on his offer to hang out sometime. I was flattered. I have a great deal of respect for people that go for it. He came across as confident and that is very attractive. He took a risk and recognized he had nothing to lose. I respected it so much before I left that night I went searching for him to thank him for being bold and to encourage him to keep going for it. Unfortunately, he was in the middle of the dance floor and I could not get close enough to catch his attention.

My hats off to Mr. Cat in the Hat! Keep going for it!!
